Congratulations to our beginners

We’d like to congratulate all our beginners who attended 3 afternoons of instruction at Ditchling, on our 2024 Beginners Course.

Archery beginners course 2024

Barebow and recurve training

A beginners course commences with the basics of bare bow and on the second session we introduce sights to the bows. On the third session, we also introduce scoring and give demos with a long bow and a recurve by experienced members of the club.

We enjoyed everyone’s company and presented them with certificates to show they have completed a course and can officially join any Archery GB club. We hope to see them again soon at Ditchling.

2024 Winter League successes

Ditchling recurve teams did very well in the Selby Winter Postal League winning both Division 12 Portsmouth and Division 9 Frostbite, and our longbow archers came a close second in their division.

In the BA Postal League, recurve outshone their rivals in Division 6 with another first and made 3rd in Division 5.

Ben and Jodie – Vince, Mel, Juli and Josh

Congratulations to father and daughter Ben and Jodie Green for two gold medals at Forest of Bere Bowmen for York/Herefords.

Congratulations to Vince, Mel, Juli and Josh who all returned with medals from Newhaven’s Western shoot in May.

At a friendly handicapped shoot in Worthing against Blind Veterans UK – our team came a respectable second. This was due to Phil, one of our new members, who entered for the first time and did extremely well!

Congratulations

Alex’s first 252 badge – well done! We look forward to seeing to get many more!

Welcome to new member Anna, and Venus and Nitin who completed their beginners course.

Ditchling’s Zara Green took 1st place

Zara and Paul
Paul Campion

Many congratulations to Zara for a great 1st place on an extremely windy field yesterday. Competing in the ladies’ compound at the Sussex County Championships she achieved a brilliant first place!

One of our longbow archers, Paul Campion made 2nd in the men’s longbow section despite the challenging wind. Paul said, ‘I totally enjoyed the challenge of shooting in the very windy conditions. And had a very enjoyable morning.”

In the afternoon, our two other archers, Ben Green (recurve) and Iain Cadle (barebow), didn’t fare as well due to the tricky conditions. Ben said, ‘There were quite a few ends running close to the time limit. On one end 70 seconds had gone before I got the first shot off leaving only 30 seconds for the last 2 arrows.’

Congratulations to all the winners. Full results on Sussex County Archery.

Down on the archery field at Ditchling, we had trees down and the cricket screen even blew over the fence! So we realise how tough the conditions were down on the coast in Angmering.

Successful American at Six Villages

Congratulations to Mel Woolgar and Vince for their 1st and 2nd place in Barebow, and Compound at Six Villages in West Sussex on 2 July 2023.

Mel said, “It was a dry but cloudy start to the day, there were 7 targets out, two details on each with a max of 6 per target, all mixed abilities with the novices and juniors taking on the challenge of a Burntwood American. The more experienced archers opted for the Standard American round 2.5 dozen at 60, 50 and 40 yards.”

Although it was a good day for our neighbours Cuckfield who took most of the awards, Ditchling archers Mel, came first in ladies Barebow and Vince, 2nd in Compound, unfortunately a couple of broken nocks scuppered his chances to take top spot.

Many thanks to Six Villages for a great day out for both novices and experienced archers. Mel said,” I recommend it, and encourage others to enter next year!
